Summertime sipping has never been more glorious! If you love the citrusy freshness of a fine Italian Soave, then don’t miss this mouthwatering white delight from vineyards high above the lovely Lake Garda, not far from Verona, in Italy’s north. It combines Soave’s famous Garganega grape with peachy, ripe Chardonnay to create an aromatic, oh-so-refreshing white that’s absolutely made for summer.
It’s bursting with flavour, and shining with Gold – AND it also has a huge 98pts from Alfonso Cevola, at Italianwineguy.it who has this to say about it:
“Powerful on the nose and rich in aromas, it reveals hints of white magnolia flowers, jasmine and orange flowers. Full body, soft and fat structure that fills the palate and a warm and enveloping finish … 98pts”
Castel del Lago Bianco 2019 is made by the talented Matteo Bernabei, son of the famous Franco Bernabei. Consultant for pricy top wineries by day, Matteo has his own vines where, by night, he makes this gem. Grown on sloping vineyards that lead down to the lake (the largest in Italy) the grapes ripen really well. All that sunshine is reflected off the water back up to the vines. The soils help too – stony and well drained, they add to the fruity, minerally intensity. The wine was aged several months on its lees as well, which adds a delicious creamy weight to its zip.
It’s a beautiful wine, just made for lazy afternoons by the water on a hot summer’s day. It’s also a very versatile food partner. Matteo suggests serving it with prosciutto and melon, grilled fish or chicken, or a crisp summer salad.
Only $83 a bottle for a Gold-medal & 98pt Italian star? Yes! But you must hurry to claim your share. Only 40 cases are available and they will sell VERY quickly. Don’t miss out!
