Two outstanding Northern Italian reds go head to head in this delicious showcase. Will the mighty Valpolicella secure its title? It is one of Italy’s most famous styles after all! Or will the luscious Picco Attila from our good friend Alessandro Gallici win the hearts and palates of our wine-loving customers?

To be honest, both of these wines are superb, and we don’t really want them to have to battle it out. We just want to show you how small estate reds can wow just as much as their top appellation counterparts. And at just $1,248 per dozen ($104 a bottle) , one thing is definitely guaranteed – the biggest winner is YOU!

Poggio al Lago Ripasso 2019

Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore DOC, Italy

Valpolicella is one of Italy’s best known reds, loved for its vibrant red fruit. This one from Cantina Negrar, an award-winning cellar not far from Verona, has been made in the ‘Ripasso’ style of the famous Amarones, where partially dried grapes add incredible richness and complexity. It’s a Superiore, so has been aged for a minimum of one year in oak. From a top vintage, the wine has rich cherry flavour, deep mocha notes and Valpolicella's attractive zip of freshness … it’s stunning!

Picco Attila 2018

Trevenezie IGP, Italy

Alessandro Gallici is a master winemaker, and he knows where to find the best fruit and how to turn it into a wine our customers LOVE. (His Prosecco is one of our very bestsellers!) Here he has combined juicy Merlot with the dark chocolatey notes of Italy’s native Refosco to create a mouthfilling, rich and sumptuous red that really impresses. Aged in large oak botti (vats) and laden with dark damson, fig and prune character, it’s a worthy match for the Valpolicella.

Who will win? You decide!

Take them both together in one sensational dozen for just $1,248 and see which one you think should take the title for the most lavish Northern Italian red. It’s a challenge you’re sure to enjoy!
