This delicious, mouthwatering Fillaboa Albariño 2016 hails from the cult Rías Baixas region (aka seafood-central) in Galicia, in northwest Spain – one of the hottest regions in the world for cool, crisp, classy whites. And its grape, Albariño, is believed to be “Spain’s great gift to the wine world” (Robert Parker) and “Spain’s best white by miles” according to wine writer Matthew Jukes.
Fillaboa (which means ‘Good Daughter’) comes from a grand estate that dates back to the 17th century, one of the oldest in Galicia. It boasts 74 hectares of vines all dedicated to Albariño – so you know it must be good! The estate is situated in the south of the appellation, close to the Portuguese border, where the Tea and Miño rivers join. These and the proximity to the Atlantic lends a wonderful freshness and limey, zesty vibrancy to the wines. Ageing on lees has added a beautiful creamy edge, but it is still brimful with freshness and minerally zip. It’s thrilling – as you will taste!
This mouthwatering white is absolutely made for seafood, so chill it down and serve the next time you’re having a seafood feast. Actually it’s also beautiful simply to sip on as you watch the sun go down on a hot summer’s evening. Delicious!
