As Hugh Johnson says, Bordeaux is “arguably the finest wine region in the world” and three magnificent examples triumph here. Indulge in the Grand Gold and Gold-winning Château La Clarière 2021 from the “leading estate in the Côtes de Castillon” (Decanter), right next door to St Émilion, the Gold-winning Château Haut Canteloup 2016 from an estate ranked a Cru Bourgeois Médoc since 1932 and the 2016 vintage “the best Bordeaux vintage I will probably ever taste” (Jancisrobinson.com), and the exquisite Gold & 94pt secret label L'Epiphanie de Margaux 2021 from a very fine estate that we can’t name. As Hugh Johnson says, “There is a delicacy about archetypal Margaux, and a sweet, haunting perfume, that can make it the most exquisite claret of all.” Taste and you’ll agree!
If Bordeaux is France’s most renowned region, Tuscany is Italy’s. Its wines are legendary. First, indulge in a pure Sangiovese from the prized Castellina area in the Gold-winning Selva del Moro Organic Chianti Classico 2020 from a beautiful estate that dates back over 800 years. Its wine is crafted by the renowned Bernabei team – Sangiovese masters. With intense bright cherry fruit and violet hints, it’s a genuine Chianti classic. Then, savour the mighty Vecciano 2021, an extraordinary ‘Super Tuscan’ from the Barbanera family which blends Sangiovese with Cabernet to create what Luca Maroni calls “an absolute masterpiece". He awarded it 99 out of 99 – a perfect score! It also boasts two Golds. Last, you’ve the sensational Sarageto 2022 – a Super Tuscan from the heart of Montalcino combining inky Cabernet and velvety Merlot together to create a sublimely elegant “tangy and juicy…91pts” (James Suckling) delight. Superb!
