This is father and son team Christophe and Pierre-Henri Gadais’ top cuvée, using the best bunches from their vineyards.

It’s a fine white aged sur lie, meaning it’s left for months on its fine lees to add subtle creamy complexity to the bright apple, pear and floral flavours. Wine International has noted how “the revival of Muscadet is coming from growers like Gadais”. And you’ll see why with this beautiful, flavoursome 2020. Ace with oysters!

Sauvignon Blanc made exclusively for us by our trusted friend Franck Chatelain at Bougrier’s renowned cellar in the Touraine. The original Abbesse was one Louise de Bourbon of the nearby Abbaye de Fontevraud and a major figure in Loire history. This delicious expression of the region’s reigning grape, Sauvignon Blanc, is a fitting tribute to her. Making wine accessible, sustainable, and convenient for all, the Bougrier family have now captured their crisp white in a can. The new nicely portable size also accentuates the crisp, lemony fruit and zippy freshness of the wine. No longer do you need to remember to pack a corkscrew on a picnic. Just pop a can into your basket and crack it open under the sun, once you've found your perfect spot!

“Gun-flint – the smell of sparks when flint strikes metal – is one way to characterise it” says Hugh Johnson. Plus, he adds, “the smell and taste of fresh blackcurrants, leaves and all” (Wine Companion). The finest examples come typically from small, independent growers like Reverdy – this tiny, seven hectare estate has won a disproportionate number of awards in recent years. Asparagus, gooseberry and mineral character make this aromatic 2019 a great match for pan fried fish or goat's cheese salad.

If you love crisp, dry, appetising whites, you can’t do better than Muscadet. Having lost out in the past to the New World, its winemakers have been working extremely hard of late to win back consumers so quality and value have never been better.

The region is right on the Atlantic coast, so its wines are wonderfully evocative of the sea. You’ll taste that maritime freshness in this delicious white from fourth-generation winemaker Noël Bougrier.
