This classic Merlot-based Right Bank claret is crafted like a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé. Nestled next to the prestigious Grands Crus Classés estates of Saint-Émilion, Castillon specializes in Merlot, complemented by a touch of both Cabernets, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.

With low vineyard yields, this wine boasts exceptional concentration. Carefully fermented in cool cellars and aged in the finest French oak barrels—one-third new and the rest second and third fill—this wine also features a small portion aged in clay amphorae, enhancing its delicious fruit purity.

This deep claret features intense aromas of ripe plum, cassis, and redcurrant, with earthy spice and oak notes. Its textured tannins support rich black fruit and oak spice, promising excellent aging for at least a decade. Alternatively, open early and decant.

Castillon is primarily known for its red wines, but it wasn’t always this way, and the team at La Clarière, led by chief winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua who was trained at Haut-Brion, is proving just how exceptional its whites can be.

From their 4 hectares of white grape vineyards, estate-grown Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris are barrel-fermented, lees-stirred, and cask-aged using techniques worthy of a Grand Cru Classé.

The result is a richly layered wine with grassy, creamy, lemon and peach notes, all enhanced by a subtle touch of oak spice ... a white that ages magnificently. It’s truly a revelation for the region.
