Château de Francs 2016
Francs Côtes de Bordeaux AOC, France

Côtes de Francs is Bordeaux’s smallest appellation, and Château de Francs is one of the oldest estates of Bordeaux. The beautifully restored medieval château has been the project of Hubert de Boüard (of Château Angelus) and Dominique Hébrard, (formerly of Château Cheval Blanc) since the 1980s. Showing off the extraordinary 2016 vintage, this lavish red is comprised mostly of hand harvested Merlot, with a little of both Cabernets, aged 50% in new oak for around 12 months. It’s full bodied and intense with ripe, concentrated fruit, while ageing in barrel lends layers of complexity and roundness. Try it with duck confit or a fine fillet steak.

Puisseguin Saint-Émilion AOC, France

A majestic red from the owners of Premier Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion property Château Beau-Séjour Bécot. In 2015 they added the 9-hectare Bernon Bécot to their family estate. It lies on the highest clay-limestone plateau of Puisseguin, a satellite appellation of Saint-Émilion itself. The 2016 has matured slowly and very well and shows lovely maturity and depth. James Suckling awarded it 91 points: “Very pretty red for this appellation with dark-berry, chocolate and almond aromas and flavors… nicely done.” Neal Martin gives it 90 points: “Attractive wild strawberry, red cherry and pressed rose petal bouquet …Excellent”.

Founded in 1824 and nestled between Margaux and Saint-Julien in the Haut-Médoc’s gravel-rich commune of Lamarque, Château Malescasse has long held its place in Bordeaux’s winemaking heritage.
