Château Malescasse 2016

The 2016 vintage of Château Malescasse reflects a remarkable growing season marked by climatic contrasts. A mild but very wet winter was followed by a cool, disease-prone spring, during which the estate’s gravelly, well-drained soils played a crucial protective role. Warm, dry weather arrived in early June, allowing for fast and even flowering, while the hot summer and wide diurnal temperature shifts enhanced colour concentration and aromatic depth. A brief September rainfall ensured ripening continued smoothly, leading to an excellent harvest.
Blended from 52% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Petit Verdot, the wine was vinified plot-by-plot in small vats and crafted with gentle extraction to preserve purity and structure. The 2016 vintage shows a deep garnet colour, with aromas of black fruits and subtle toast on the nose. The palate is dense and full, revealing a tight yet elegant structure, ripe fresh tannins and a powerful, rounded finish that unfolds with juicy fruit intensity — magnificent and truly classic in style.
