There are few French reds as magical as Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The most prestigious red of France's ancient Southern Rhône Valley, it evokes refinement, complexity, richness, luxury and power.
It’s the fine French red that first seduced Robert Parker – he calls it a “hedonistic, intellectual treat” — and it continues to be sought after by connoisseurs and collectors today.
The vineyards are famously covered with galets roulés, the sun-warmed stones that store heat by day and release it at night, helping grapes reach magnificent ripeness and concentration. Taste the superb Cuvée Prestigieux, and you will feel truly exultant indeed.
Made by the Guillot family, it’s a fabulously rich and intense red made with Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. The Guillots originally grew vines in Burgundy, but in 1911 they were so enamoured by the power and prestige of Châteauneuf that they bought land in the Rhône valley.
Today, Laurent Guillot is in charge, working the family plots both in Burgundy and the Rhône. A full-bodied, velvety style with powerful, dark fruit and smoky spice, it’s a voluptuous red with exceptional structure, complexity and flavour on a long, luscious finish. It makes a truly magical accompaniment to a prime lamb roast.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a ‘Cru’wine. A Rhône red that is so esteemed that it doesn’t need the word Rhône on the label – a Cru speaks for itself. Gigondas is another legendary Cru much sought-after by connoisseurs, and today you can add one – also from Laurent Guillot.
Velvety, with luscious bramble and berry fruits, herbal length and spice, it’s another heady, decadent, full-bodied Southern Rhône beauty that will make you swoon. Again, look out for your finest roast meats to accompany it.
