Rich, densely flavoured Puglian red wine made in a similar style to Amarone. Warm with dark spiced f La Fonte d'Oro's built up quite a fan club since it first arrived in 2008. It's a velvet-smooth red wine bursting with powerful black fruit thanks to Puglia’s flavour-packed native grape varieties and fine winemaking. Winemaker Simone Cortese uses the finest Negroamaro and Primitivo grapes, two local specialities that ooze dense, ripe fruit character, and dries them after picking to concentrate the flavours even more. Of course, this is a costly way to make wine but the results are impressive. After two weeks’ drying, the grapes are pressed, extracting super-rich, intensely flavoured juice. Six months' ageing in oak adds layers of vanilla and spice to the wine's dark, ripe fruit. Decant and serve with a rich stew.
