Tenuta Prima Pietra was founded in 2002 by Massimo Ferragamo (yes, of the famous Salvatore Ferragamo designer label), who searched out the highest land possible in coastal Tuscany, near the beautiful medieval village of Riparbella, just north of Bolgheri to plant his vines. The cooler, elevated site, where the sunshine is hot and intense during the day, and temperatures drop sharply at night, was essential to create a wine of purity and freshness that embodied all the luxury, elegance and style the Ferragamo name was renowned for.
He also enlisted the services of winemaker and oenologist Cecilia Leoneschi, whose meticulous skills have helped make Prima Pietra a wine of distinction, loved by critics and sought after by collectors.
The 100% certified organic vineyards overlooking the sea are comprised of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, which combined together make this sensational 2020 Bordeaux-style Super Tuscan blend. Hand-picked, each batch was vinified separately, then blended and matured in luxury French oak for 18 months. The result? An exquisitely rich and lavish wine, boasting 93pts across the board from Vinous, Decanter, Drinks Business and Falstaff.

Sarageto 2022 comes from the heart of Montalcino and combines rich, dark Cabernet with a little silky Merlot, aged in oak barrels. With bright plum and cherry fruit and a lift of wild herbs, this is a very fine, elegant Tuscan red, a “tangy and juicy…91pts” (James Suckling) delight. Superb!
