Casale dello Sparviero is a magnificent Tuscan estate. It has an 800-year-old history, with its oldest vineyard dedicated to grapes since 1169.
Olindo Andrighetti bought the farm in the Chianti heartland in the 1970s – over 50 years ago. A businessman from the Veneto, he sensed the huge potential of what he'd taken on and set about restoring its vineyards, olive groves, woodland and buildings. His daughter Ada and her son Arrigo look after the estate today, producing the top tier Sangiovese (all organically grown) that goes into this glorious Chianti Classico.
The wine itself is made by Franco Bernabei and his son Matteo Bernabei, top Italian wine consultants who specialise in the Sangiovese grape. (Franco is often referred to as “Mr. Sangiovese.”) As you would expect, it’s a beautiful wine. It opens with intense cherry fruit, violet, baking spice and leather aromas. The palate shows dark cherry, raspberry and wild herb flavours with smooth, polished tannins. Nicely balanced, with fresh acidity, it’s a wonderful food wine, ideal with a platter of salumi, or your favourite pasta dish. One sip and you’ll feel like you’re in Tuscany!

Here, he presents his fabulous oak-aged Riserva made from one of Sicily’s great hero grapes, Nero d’Avola, also organic. It's bottled in 100% recycled glass, known as 'wild' glass too. Dark and silky, packed with cherry, plum and berry fruit with spicy notes of pepper, liquorice and tobacco, it’s a mouthfilling red you’ll love to share over a pizza!
