A silky, juicy-berry Malbec with elegance and freshness thanks to Argentina's high vineyards Argentina’s Malbec is one of the trendiest wines on the planet. Most comes from Mendoza, but further north lies San Juan, with vineyards at around 700 metres altitude. There you’ll find Bodegas Antigua. The estate was founded in 1990 by Don Luis Victor Chirino. A builder by trade and a huge wine enthusiast, he bought two wineries and land to plant with vines. His headquarters is a historic building which in 1990 required considerable restoration. Within four years it had been transformed into a magnificent cellar, with an art gallery and museum alongside it. That's thanks to Don Luis’ wife Azucena, who enlisted the help of local artists whose work she exhibits. Sierra del Plata is a charming Malbec to drink with grilled meats or pasta.
