Founded in 1692, Spier Estate is South Africa’s oldest wine estate and one much admired. It has many top awards, including IWSC’s SA Producer of the Year 2018, plus prizes for its environmental initiatives and work within the community. Growing for Good is just one, a community-based learning initiative, encouraging positive environmental action: planting trees in exchange for essential goods, giving young people work experience and mentorship in hospitality, agriculture and wine. Plus, they're very strong on sustainability, both in the vineyard and cellar and at their organic-certified farm. But, above all, they make terrific wines. This fruit-filled red is plush with flavours of well-ripened Cabernet and Shiraz grapes. A great steak red.
