Also from Piedmont is the lovely Il Poeta Chardonnay 2024 from grower / poet Natale Seghesio. His Chardonnay is a lavish treat brimming with minerally fruit and ripe tropical notes. 

We head to the Veneto’s coastal Friuli next, for the lipsmacking Luigi e Lucina Pinot Grigio 2024 (named after the couple that inspired the original Romeo & Juliet story) and the stunning East by North East Pinot Grigio 2022 from an estate that really put top-quality Friuli Pinot Grigio on the map. Crafted by 100-point winemaker Stefano Chioccioli, this is a glorious white featuring impressive floral, candied peel, and peach notes.

This gorgeously fresh and zesty fizz comes from Valerio Civa at his family estate in Friuli. The winery lies very close to famous names like Livio Felluga, Marco Felluga and Jermann, whose top wines fetch up to $750 a bottle. Nearly all Ribolla Gialla picked early for freshness, with a 15% portion of Chardonnay, it has luscious ripe fruit, zesty lemon notes and a creamy mousse. It’s truly charming. Enjoy!
