Pillastro is one of the flagship wine ranges from southern Italy's renowned Cantine Due Palme, created by legendary winemaker Angelo Maci, a key figure in Puglia's quality revolution. Inspired by the village's ancient stone pillar – il pillastro – the name symbolizes strength, tradition and the enduring spirit of the region. Since its first release in 2004, Pillastro has become one of the best-selling Italian wine collections, with more than 1.5 million bottles enjoyed each year around the world.
Pillastro Primitivo Puglia 2023
The spicy, velvety fruit of southern Italy's prized Primitivo in this much-loved customer favourite Pillastro is one of our bestselling Italian reds – customers love all that richness, warmth and bold, ripe fruit. It comes from Puglia's Salento region, in Italy’s deep south, best known for big reds made from the prized local variety Primitivo. It's from Angelo Maci, a hero in the region for standing up to the big guns and championing the small grower. He started the cellar over 30 years ago with 15 growers, now there are over 1,000 and he knows them all by name. It's not only growers he saves, but the ancient traditions and almost-extinct grape varieties that make these wines so rich, characterful and super-charged. A leading figure in the quality revolution, he's made this rich, powerful red. A great match to spicy tomato pasta.
Pillastro Nero 2023
Three-time Vinitaly Winemaker of the Year Angelo Maci has outdone himself with this deep, dark red. Created from old vines and barrel aged for spicy complexity, this acclaimed Cabernet-Primitivo brims with velvety notes of black fruit.
Pillastro Selezione d'Oro Puglia 2023
Rich, dark, old-vine Primitivo and Negroamaro, barrel-aged for sumptuous, velvety perfection Puglia offers “undreamed-of character and potential” (Hugh Johnson) and “reds that give you a lot of wine for your money” (Decanter), yet even in this context Pillastro Selezione d’Oro stands out. It's the work of Angelo Maci, a champion of the region, who started the Cantine Due Palme cellar in the 1980s to save the growers and the region's traditions. Since then Cantine Due Palme has been Winery of the Year three times, while Angelo Maci has multiple Winemaker of the Year titles and a Lifetime Achievement award. This premium edition takes grapes from 50-year-old vines to add even greater depth of flavour. Ageing in French oak barrels adds spice to this complex rich, dense fruit red. Decant and serve with roast meats or a rich pasta dish.

Pillastro Susumaniello 2023
Juicy, powerfully rich Susumaniello, a rare Italian red style you just have to try Italy’s deep south is best known for big, smoky wines made from its prized local varieties – Primitivo, Negroamaro, and in this case the uniquely Puglian Susumaniello grape. In local dialect, Susumaniello roughly translates as “loaded like a donkey”, referring to the wine’s massive amounts of aroma and flavour. Pillastro’s creator Angelo Maci is a leading figure in Puglia’s recent quality revolution, and is fervently proud of local traditions and rare grape varieties. As fans of southern Italian wines – and Pillastro fans in particular – will agree, Puglia offers “undreamed-of character and potential” (Hugh Johnson), and rich, spicy Susumaniello is a supreme example of this. Serve in large glasses with braised lamb shanks or caponata.
