From vineyards at the foot of the Pernand hill, including some 1er Cru grapes. Silky, fresh and aromatic with pretty red berry fruit and floral notes. Vibrant and juicy with a hint of pepper on the finish. This seriously overdelivers for the price.

Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Pernand-Vergelesses Rouge comes from a family estate in a village that is not only one of the most beautiful in the Côte de Beaune, but also one of the oldest – Pernand-Vergelesses.

Now on her 30th vintage at the family estate, owner Christine Dubreuil is a great winemaker at her picture postcard Pernand-Vergelesses property. The village itself sits adjacent to the famous hill of Corton, on the top of which sits the Grand Cru vineyard of Corton-Charlemagne. Immediately to the north of it you find the vineyards of Pernand-Vergelesses, which produce intense, mineral rich wines that age.

From her 20 hectares of vines, Christine produces a range from village Burgundy to the top Grands Crus. This great red wine takes grapes from the lieu dit Les Fichots – a few are Premier Cru – at the bottom of the Pernand hill. Traditionally fermented and part aged in barrel, it's delicate and fresh with fresh black cherry and raspberry on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied and full of red berry fruit and a touch of rusticity, with crunchy fresh cherries lingering on the finish.

Delicious on its own, it’s a great pairing with grilled lamb, seared tuna or a French omelette.
