Muscadet is a true French classic, renowned for its citrus and saline freshness. And with a new generation of winemakers taking over family domaines, there’s an even greater impetus for quality.
Domaine des Herbauges was founded in 1864 and came into the hands of third-generation owner Luc Choblet in 1980. Luc firmly believed environmentally friendly methods were the way forward and the best way to obtain even more flavour from his grapes.
Now his son, Jérôme, has taken over and is moving quality even higher. He says: “Winemaking is my passion, as is cultivating the very best vines. Each step of the process determines the final expression of the flavours and aromas of my wines, from the most intense to the most delicate”.
This is a fine Muscadet, with all the grapes taken from the premium subregion of Côtes de Grandlieu. Aged for a year on lees for added breadth of flavour, this is a classic match for oysters and other seafood, or enjoy as a refreshing apéritif.
