Tenuta Fenice (‘house of the phoenix’) marks the rebirth of Dino Taschetta’s centuries-old family vineyard, abandoned after a 1968 earthquake, and then rejuvenated by Dino. The old vines and high elevation create incredibly concentrated, richly flavoured fruit – as you will soon taste.

Tenuta Fenice Nero d’Avola 2023, Sicilia DOC, Italy
Nero d’Avola is “as valuable to Sicily as Shiraz is to Australia” (The Independent) and “creates elegant, age-worthy wines” (Fiona Beckett, theguardian.com). This is a jewel of a red, with lipsmacking dark cherry and blackberry fruit, richly perfumed aromas and sweet spices on a long, rich finish. We’re not the only ones that are impressed – it has two Golds and high critic points too.
Tenuta Fenice Riserva 2022, Sicilia DOC, Italy
Here, Dino has combined his famous Nero d’Avola with some juicy Cabernet, ageing it all in barrel to make this fine Riserva. Now with three years’ maturity, it has savoury, smoky tobacco and spice notes to flatter the silky dark cherry flavours. Deeply rich and decadent, it’s the perfect partner to roast lamb with all the trimmings. And it’s a pretty spectacular pizza partner too!
