Established in 1974 by Tim Knappstein, this fine estate was key to the rise of the Clare Valley and its reputation for fine, ageworthy Riesling and majestic, powerful Cabernets. Its historic, beautiful winery (originally a brewery, established in 1878) is a must-visit on any South Australian wine tour. Tim was a pioneer of his time, and the estate still boasts some of the region’s finest mature vineyards. The Cabernet vineyards lie to the north of Clare Valley, planted on prized terra rossa soil over limestone.
Look forward to lovely aromas of juicy blackcurrants, dark chocolate and mint. The palate is bold and full-bodied, with fine tannins and a long, firm finish. Like its predecessors, the 2021 is a multi-award winner – it boasts Double Gold, 2 Golds and plenty of high critic points.
