Lovers of fine Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, you’re in for a dazzling treat today from the winery that put New Zealand on the world wine map – and look at the incredible price!
When Ernie and Jane Hunter first showed their Sauvignon Blanc from their Home Block Marlborough Vineyard at the Laithwaites 1986 London Vintage Festival, it astonished customers and experts alike. It won every award going, sparked New Zealand newspaper headlines, and even created a debate in the NZ parliament! As Bob Campbell MW wrote: “If there is one company that started the whole international story called Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, it is Hunter’s – they got the magic started.”
Hunter’s have gone on to become a renowned, award-winning estate, and they have extended their range way beyond that original vineyard. But their Hunter’s Home Block Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is made purely from the grapes of that original vineyard – and it’s exceptional. This is a beautiful wine, unmistakably aromatically Marlborough, but it also has a wonderful Sancerre-style creamy weight to the intense citrussy freshness and passionfruit flavours, thanks to 4 months' lees ageing. The wine simply sings with fruit finesse. It really is stunning – and the perfect partner to fresh seafood. A big platter of fresh prawns, perhaps, or oysters au naturel.
Add-on a gorgeous NZ Gewürztraminer at 59% OFF!
NZ is famous for its Sauvignon Blanc of course, but it has many other varieties that charm – like this delicious Gewürztraminer from the award-winning Seifried Estate in Nelson, not far from Marlborough.
Deeply aromatic on the nose, sweet and bright on the palate with beautiful lychee, spice and rosewater flavours, it’s an absolute delight. It’s wonderful with spicy stir-fries but is also delicious just to sip on its own.
