Saracosa Governo Rosso 2025 Toscana IGT, Italy
Sofia Barbanera’s deliciously decadent ‘Super Tuscan’ blend of Sangiovese and Merlot uses the 14th century ‘Governo’ method. By using partially air-dried grapes and small oak barrel ageing, this wine achieves incredible richness, complexity, and a velvety texture. Wine critic Oz Clarke has called Saracosa Governo a “rich, succulent, unbelievably scented, indulgent and exotic” style, while Italy’s top critic Luca Maroni awarded this vintage a huge 98pts out of 99!!
Pillastro Nero 2023 Puglia IGP, Italy
The great Angelo Maci’s Cantine due Palme winery has won many awards, including Southern Italian Winery of the Year (three times!). In this lavish Double Gold-winning 96pt wine, inky Cabernet and luscious Primitivo (the ‘Godfather’ of southern Italian grapes) grown on Angelo’s 80+-year-old alberello-trained bush vines. The result is an extraordinarily rich, concentrated wine featuring a velvety palate of ripe black fruits and sweetly spiced toasty oak on a long, luxurious finish.
w/o Nero d'Avola Riserva 2022 Sicilia DOC, Italy
The talented Dino Taschetta is well-known to our customers thanks to his superb Tenuta Fenice. Here, he presents his fabulous oak-aged Riserva made from one of Sicily’s great hero grapes, Nero d’Avola, also organic. It's bottled in 100% recycled glass, known as 'wild glass’ too. Dark and silky, packed with cherry, plum and berry fruit with spicy notes of pepper, liquorice and tobacco, it’s a mouthfilling red you’ll love to share over a pizza.
Add-on a lavishly intense ‘Amarone-style’ Southern Italian red at 58% OFF
As Hugh Johnson says, southern Italy’s Puglia is a land of “undreamed of character and potential” and this opulent red from the talented winemaker Simone Cortese shows all that character and potential in spades.
First, he took Negroamaro and Primitivo grapes, two of the region’s blackest varieties oozing dense, ripe fruit character. Then, he air-dried them, Amarone-style, to concentrate their flavours even more. Look forward to a sumptuously rich, dark, soulful black red that is decadently intense.
