As Decanter’s Andrew Jefford says, “There is no Mendoza winery for which I have had more long-term admiration than Fabre Montmayou … [the wines] have had a texture and innate classiness and finesse from the first.”
The man behind Fabre Montmayou is winemaker Hervé Fabre, schooled in the art of fine winemaking in Bordeaux, but now dedicated to making the finest Argentine wines. Hervé came to South America in the 1990s and fell in love with old vine Malbec. With properties in both Mendoza and Patagonia, he runs his estates like a top Bordeaux château, and his uncompromising, no-expense-spared approach, using only the best fruit and the finest barrels, produces multi award-winning wines of incredible intensity, flavour, character and style.
His wines have won many top awards, along with high praise and high scores from critics including Robert Parker, James Suckling and Tim Atkin. It’s not just the wines that win accolades either. In 2017, Fabre was awarded Argentina Winery of the Year, in 2018, Winemaker of the Year and his wines have won many Trophies as well.
In your collection, enjoy 4 bottles each of:
HJ Fabre Barrel Selection Malbec 2023 Patagonia, Argentina
A magnificent Argentine Malbec, made with fruit from 30-year-old vines grown in Patagonia’s Río Negro. Made like a fine claret, aged in French oak barriques, it's powerful, yet elegant with lush violet and spicy plum fruit.
HJ Fabre Reservado Cabernet Franc 2023 Mendoza, Argentina
Rich, luxurious Cabernet Franc, the grape most favoured by Bordeaux superstar Cheval Blanc, using all hand-picked fruit from Luján de Cuyo in Mendoza. Aged for a year in French oak, it’s pure and intense, beautifully balanced, with silky fruit finesse.
HJ Fabre Reserva Malbec Touriga Nacional 2023 Mendoza, Argentina
Hervé is the master of the famous pure Mendoza Malbec, but he also embraces innovation. Here, try his exciting combination of fine Mendoza Malbec with Touriga Nacional, a variety more often seen in Portugal. Smooth, dark, richly fruity and spiced – it’s superb!
If you’re a fan of fine Argentine reds, you’ll know they’re a magic match to a prime cut of wood-fire grilled steak – just the way the Argentinians like it. So visit the butcher for your finest cut of meat, fire up the barbecue, and enjoy!
