The Barossa is world famous for its lavishly concentrated BIG reds – the Shiraz in particular. Its old vines are virtually national treasures, and the region is home to some of Australia’s most iconic estates and famous wines like Penfolds Grange and Henschke Hill of Grace. Voluptuous, intense, inky black and rich, a fine Barossa Shiraz is a thing of majesty and wonder!
Today, we are delighted to give you access to a vertical tasting of a single estate flagship Barossa Shiraz from the renowned RedHeads estate – their magnificent 1888 Barossa Shiraz, named after the 1888 cottage that sits on their property – one of the oldest buildings in the region.

The “cracker!” 2021 vintage. Ideal growing conditions in 2021 resulted in a superb vintage, and you can really see this in the intense colour and richness of the wine. As winemaker Alex Trescowthick said at the time, it’s “a cracker – a classic Barossa Shiraz, full of flavour and power.”
The “best ever” 2022 vintage. The crops were down a little in 2022, but the fruit was some of the best RedHeads have ever seen. Look forward to plush and textural velvety tannins, ripe berry fruit sweetness, a lovely layer of spice and a long and savoury finish.
The “brooding” 2023 vintage. The vines now have some solid age behind them, each over 30 years old, giving a decadently deep and brooding character. Even better than the ‘best ever’ 2022 – and it’s won Gold! Look forward to velvety black fruit, rich spice and silky tannins on a long, lavish finish.
Add on the first-ever 2018 vintage of the superb 1888
Yes, this is a historic buy! The 2018 vintage is the first RedHeads 1888 Barossa Shiraz ever made. 2018 was brilliant for full bodied, big, rich reds, and RedHeads were thrilled with the fruit that the vineyard they had inherited with their new property provided. Now at 8 years old this lavish 2018 shows how brilliantly the 1888 ages in bottle.
