Since 1735, the history of Burgundy and Charles Viennot have been entwined. The house quickly established a reputation for making exceptional wines and becoming a champion of the Côtes de Nuits and the Côtes de Beaune, highlighting the richness and quality of Burgundy’s terroir.

Now it is embracing the wines of Viré-Clessé – a rising star appellation of the Mâconnais. “This new AP (created 1999) is keeping neighbouring Pouilly-Fuissé on its toes, at substantially lower prices.”

The villages of Viré and Clessé in southern Burgundy boast fossil-rich limestone soils, similar to Chablis, famed for its mineral-fresh Chardonnays.
