Perfectly mature Right Bank claret from a Bordeaux legend
Château La Prade is the boutique estate of Nicolas Thienpont, the celebrated winemaker behind Saint-Émilion’s famous Château Pavie Macquin. Enjoy Grand Cru Classé winemaking for a fraction of the usual price.
Château La Prade lies on Bordeaux’s Right Bank in Francs Côtes de Bordeaux, Bordeaux’s smallest appellation. Some of Bordeaux’s finest winemakers have invested in this tiny appellation, including Nicolas Thienpont, owner of Château La Prade.
Nicolas is winemaker of Saint-Émilion 1er Grand Cru Classé Château Pavie Macquin and bought Château La Prade in 2000.
Why? The vineyards lie on a limestone plateau – just like the most prized sites in Saint-Émilion. And with very similar terroir and the same Grand Cru Classé winemaking, you’re getting a top-tier claret for an absolute bargain price.
When we say Grand Cru Classé winemaking, we’re talking rigorous selection in the vineyards and winery, whole-bunch fermentation, long ageing in the finest oak barrels ... the works.
Even more excitingly, this has spent years ageing patiently in perfect conditions at the cellars in Bordeaux. Now beautifully mature, the 2012 is silky-smooth with notes of wild berries, herbs and leathery spice. Very limited stocks.
