Low Stock Château de la Greffière Mâcon La Roche Vineuse 2022

Château de la Greffière Mâcon La Roche Vineuse 2022

Item Code: 3099622

Description

For outstanding Burgundy that offers value too, head straight for the Mâcon and this superb 4th-generation estate. Fruit from the 30-year-old vines, a slow fermentation and lees stirring add up to a rich creamy fruit style with impressive complexity.

Southern Burgundy’s Mâconnais has long been known for being a hotspot for good value but in the last decade its winemakers have proved that this goes hand in hand with remarkable quality too. They may not be able to put ‘Grand Cru’ on the label, but some of the bottles certainly warrant it. The Greuzards have been crafting superb wines at their Greffière estate for four generations now.

In fact there is evidence the property was making wine from 1585. Their top vineyard – La Roche Vineuse – is 12 hectares with vines 30 to 50-years-old. No wonder the fruit is so deliciously concentrated and long. Slow fermentation with lees stirring results in this rich complex style. Serve lightly chilled with white meats, risotto or a creamy fish dish.

Domaine Bernard Moreau Bourgogne Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes 2022

Item Code: 4097022

Description

Want a well-priced white Burgundy with lovely fruit, weight and roundness? This 2022 comes from a small, 7-hectare, Mâconnais domaine owned by Bernard Moreau. From 60-year-old vineyards planted on various terroirs, this is an elegant, complex white.

Bernard Moreau has been in charge of his small family domaine in the Mâconnais since 1982 and is now assisted by his son, Alex, as winemaker. It lies very close to a village called Chardonnay, just like the grape! For this white, they use fruit from their 60-year-old vines, planted on calcareous soils and with excellent sun exposure. This is the perfect formula for wine with depth and concentration.

Plus, 2022 whites are blessed with richness, body and ripeness, a generous year. Bernard tends his vines with the utmost care, using sustainable, eco-friendly methods. This results in a wine with a balance of creamy roundness, ripe pear, crisp minerality and finesse. Serve cellar cool with creamy sauced dishes to best enjoy its subtle flavour.

Low Stock Domaine de Bellene Coteaux Bourguignons L'Eclos des Abeilles 2020

Domaine de Bellene Coteaux Bourguignons L'Eclos des Abeilles 2020

Item Code: 4226420

Description

Nicolas Potel is a hugely talented winemaker, possibly even greater than his renowned father, Gérard, before him. From “one of the top vintages in Burgundy for many years” (Potel), this is a new white with gorgeous ripeness and a whip of minerality.

Domaine de Bellene is the craftsmanship of Nicolas Potel, who learned at an early age from his renowned father, Gérard. He went on to gain experience in Australia and California. His father's early death meant the family estate had to be sold and Nicolas was left to build from nothing. At Bellene, Nicolas is both talented winemaker using estate fruit, and "haute-couture négociant", sourcing top-quality, old-vine grapes from individual growers.

His wines are "absolutely delicious" (Neal Martin), “in the class of the very best that Burgundy can produce,” wrote Jasper Morris MW. This wine is from densely planted vines in the Hautes Côtes. Wild yeast fermentation in oak, with 'malo' to lend creaminess, it combines a roundness with minerality.

Domaine Dampt is a star among the great names of Chablis. We love their wines because they offer both great finesse and exceptional value. From a high-quality, classic vintage, this Vieilles Vignes has brilliant citrus fruit and mineral intensity.

The Dampt brothers, Eric, Emmanuel and Hervé, are the fifth generation at the family estate, with a mission to produce the finest Chablis of the appellation. They boast vineyards from Petit Chablis to Grand Cru and wines that are beautifully crafted. That’s why, every year, we’re hot foot to their cellar, eager to try out the new vintage. 2022 was a great year for both quality and quantity with classic, balanced styles of Chablis made. Low Stock Domaine Servin Chablis Les Pargues 2021

Domaine Servin Chablis Les Pargues 2021

Item Code: 0116121

Description

Founded in 1654, the Servin family "continues to number among Chablis's most reliable addresses" (Wine Advocate). Today their lovingly restored Les Pargues vineyard produces Premier Cru quality (as it was pre World War I) and offers superb value.

Once itself an official Premier Cru vineyard, Les Pargues sits between Premiers Crus Montmains and Vaillons, the Chablis from which sets you back up to £30 a bottle. The difference is Les Pargues was abandoned during World War I and declassified – understandable then, but not now when you taste the quality. In the 1950s the Servin family began to restore their plot and now 50-year-old vines deliver wine of impressive concentration. Only local politics prevent it from being reinstated to its rightful status. Seventh-generation custodian François Servin now lavishes Premier Cru attention on his vineyard, ensuring wine with the honeyed minerality of great Chablis. Serve gently chilled with seafood or white meats. Open early or cellar.

Low Stock Laithwaite Champagne Cuvée Anniversaire Brut Premier Cru 50th 2002

Laithwaite Champagne Cuvée Anniversaire Brut Premier Cru 50th 2002

Item Code: 3745602

Description

This fine Champagne marks the 50 year anniversary of Laithwaite’s. It’s pure Chardonnay from the grower Paul Goerg and the outstanding 2002 vintage. Long aged on its lees, it has lovely, creamy, toasty brioche notes as well as citrus, honeyed fruit.

We were looking for a particularly fine fizz to mark the 50th anniversary of Laithwaite’s Wine’s launch onto the world. We’ve certainly found it with this superbly rich, complex and elegant 2002. It’s pure Premier Cru Chardonnay from the tiny production, Champagne grower Paul Goerg. Secondary fermentation in bottle was followed by five years’ ageing on its lees (the standard is two), then another few years more, after dosage and the finishing of the wine. This Champagne was launched by Tony back in the 1970s and he’s still proud of it. No doubt he’ll be cracking open a few bottles during this special anniversary year, as well as tucking a few away in his cellar. An excellent celebration Champagne, when only the best will do.

Low Stock Domaine Saint André Chardonnay 2021

Domaine Saint André Chardonnay 2021

Item Code: 2619121

Description

Domaine Saint André is a Chardonnay full of bright, fresh flavour. Thanks to night harvesting, it has tropical fruit ripeness and appetising freshness, ensuring its appeal to lovers of both affordable white Burgundy and New World Chardonnay.

If you enjoy quality wine and appreciate value, southern France has a lot to offer. There is a myriad of appellations and producers to get to know. And fewer rules to follow, so winemakers can be creative. We have been wending our way around villages and vineyards there since the late 1960s so we know where to look and have many invaluable connections.

Yannick Pons of Domaine Saint André has a beautiful estate, skirted by the Canal du Midi and the Roman road Via Domitia. It's not far from the famous Oppidum (hilltop town) d’Ensérune, which dates back some 3,000 years. This is prime Chardonnay country, producing lovely, pure, creamy peach fruit in this modern style white. It’s perfect on its own or with salads, fish dishes or roast chicken.
