The Pignoletto grape is considered the "king of the Colli Bolognese wine zone", but few have heard of it outside of the Emilia region of northern central Italy. Our buyer, Leo, had to use his persuasive prowess to secure cases of this hidden gem from winemaker Daniele Artioli. And it’s proved to be a huge hit with our customers. It’s an easy to drink, dry frizzante, made using mainly Pignoletto (named after 'pigna' – the Italian for 'cone' – due to the shape of its bunches).
Its lively green apple notes are enhanced by citrusy Trebbiano and Muscat, which lends a grapey aroma. A gentle fizz makes it a delightful apéritif, perfect for leisurely sipping in the garden on a sunny afternoon. Serve chilled and pair with salad or seafood.
Le Vieux Château Guibeau 2019
Superb, Merlot-rich claret from an award-winning estate that Tony Laithwaite has bought from for years. It’s from the Saint-Emilion satellite, Puisseguin, and offers class and value with its ample rich plum and cassis intensity.
Reboul Salze 2020
This gorgeous, velvety claret is the result of a long friendship: our buyer Jean-Marc and Bordeaux's renowned Christophe Reboul Salze.Christophe blended a top-vintage 93-pt cuvée from each of his Blaye estates, so good he lent the wine his name.
Need a gift to impress? Then don’t miss the beautifully wooden-box packaged Château La Clarière Duo from the legendary 2019 & 2020 vintages!
Château Puy-Blanquet 2015
If you're looking for the fruit filled exuberance of the 2015 balanced beautifully with careful ageing, then allow us to introduce you to this 2015 Château Puy Blanquet. From an esteemed St Émilion Grand Cru estate, this is a class claret.
Château Saint Jean de Béard 2016
From a family property, now run by the 9th generation, this 2016 offers exceptional value. A great vintage, lovely depth and ripeness to the low-yield fruit, with up to 18 months in barrel, this is a velvety, deep Bordeaux red.
Velvety, black fruit Alicante plays a minor role in many reds, but José Neiva Correia decided to give it center stage. Madness some thought, but over 30 Golds, a Best Buy and countless rave customer reviews later has proven José right.
Château Ramage La Batisse 2011
Georges Pauli and the team at Château Ramage La Batisse have won three more Golds with this delightful cru bourgeois. 2011 was a difficult vintage weatherwise, but revisiting its wines today proves how delicious they now are.
The Angus is a glorious ripe Aussie blend of the Bordeaux trio Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot. It comes from the McPherson family, also behind The Full Fifteen, and provides a truly satisfying mouthful of dark fruit and spicy flavour.
For quality and value, Abbesse Sauvignon Blanc is hard to beat and an all-time customer favourite. It's from our friends, the Bougrier family, with whom we've worked for the last 20 years. Every year, they search out the best parcels of grapes from Touraine, the Pays Nantais (home to Muscadet) and other regions where the grape shines to get the perfect balance of bright fruit and elegant, citrus zip. They've named the wine in honour of the original Abbesse of the famous Abbaye de Fontevraud nearby, Louise de Bourbon, a major figure in Loire history. This delicious expression of the region’s reigning grape is a fitting tribute to her. Delicious chilled as a glass on its own, it's also a classic with goat’s cheese and all sorts of seafood.
Top critic Robert Parker once said of this domain that he loved the "powerful, rich, in your face style of wine" it made. That’s due to the tiny yields Jean-Marc Diffonty ekes out from his meticulously tended vineyards of gnarly old vines. His family launched the Cuvée du Vatican label in 1958 with the blessing of the Pope. Even more impressive, this full-bodied red is the sister wine to Château Sixtine, a former IWC Châteauneuf-du-Pape of the Year.
It has real class – the 2019 won GOLD at the China Wine & Spirits, Competition and was also crowned New Zealand Wine of the Year. This one shows all that same dazzling style.
Brezza Bianca Frizzante Prosecco NV
A refreshing Prosecco in a frizzante style. It's from a boutique winery run by the Tombacco family. Thanks to its lemony character and soft mousse, it's ideal to enjoy as an aperitif or for celebrations.
Valiosa Brut NV
If you thought Spanish fizz was limited to Cava, think again. Valiosa is soft, rounded and aromatic. With a gentle mousse and creamy lemon fruit, it's a welcome guest at your next celebration.
Castillo Labastida Reserva 2016
Lavish plum and raspberry, wrapped in cinnamon spice and vanilla oak in this fabulous 91-point & Gold Reserva. It's made by the award-winning Castillo Labastida in Rioja, Atlantic and mountain-cooled Alavesa region.
Carravacas de Primicia Reserva Rioja 2015
This Rioja Reserva always impresses us with its seductive, rich flavours and now, with six years' age, it's showing its complexity. It’s all hand picked Tempranillo from a special Alavesa vineyard – luscious, layered berry fruit and oaky length.
Castello di Cigognola La Maga Riserva 2013
The wine treasures of Lombardy's Oltrepo Pavese rarely escape Italian. Every reason to seize your chance with this mature, oak-matured masterpiece from a 13th century castle! Oak and cherry-scented, it is silky, yet firm and bewitchingly long.
Commendator Enrico Rosso Toscano 2015
A glorious, top vintage Super Tuscan, awarded a phenomenal 99 points by Italy’s top critic, Luca Maroni. It’s from a Tuscan estate that’s no stranger to high-90s scores. Sangiovese with Merlot and Cab, barrel aged, it is sumptuous and rich.
