When Alessandro Gallici decided to blend grapes from his native Friuli with international varietals, he couldn’t have imagined the success that would follow. Thrillingly fresh with hints of apricot and pear; so good, you might need the bigger bottle!
Venezie in northern Italy boasts an Alpine climate that makes it perfect for crisp, aromatic whites. Pinot Grigio is the best known grape here, but Alessandro Gallici's ‘visionary’ white proves there's more to be found in this region. Born in Friuli, Alessandro knows the vineyards here like the back of his hand. For years he was head winemaker at a top cellar in the heart of Friuli, until in 2011 he branched out on his own. In Visionario, Alessandro combines local Friulano with other grapes such as Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer, to create a wonderfully aromatic white that’s a massive customer favourite. It’s terrific on its own and has natural affinity with fish dishes such as trout with almonds, creamy pasta or crab risotto.
