Low Stock LC Sauternes (half bottle) 2019

LC Sauternes (half bottle) 2019

Item Code: 4194219

Description

Special parcel of magnificent Sauternes from a First Growth estate. We can't tell you the name, but it really is one of the finest. Honeyed apricot, spice and nutty complexity, with a taut backbone of citrus freshness. Great now, terrific to cellar.

Our winemaker-buyer, Jean-Marc Sauboua, is a very popular fellow. When a top-drawer Bordeaux estate – that is First Growth, possibly Second – has a parcel they want to clear discreetly, it’s J-M they call. The cuvées are originally destined for the Grand Vin. So, they are from the same vines, tended with the same care, but are those that don’t quite make the final cut. This is one from a First Growth Sauternes property that we can’t name, but it's the absolute pinnacle of finesse. What’s more, LC was one of the last vats to be excluded in the final ‘taste-through’, so was very nearly included in the Grand Vin. Mostly Sémillon with a dash of Sauvignon, every grape botrytised and fermented slowly in new oak. Gorgeously rich, honeyed and long.

L'Épiphanie de Pauillac 2020

Item Code: 3882020

Description

We’d love to reveal the name of the illustrious château behind this fine claret, but we’re sworn to secrecy. We can reveal, though, that it’s made at a Premier Grand Cru Classé estate in Pauillac whose Grand Vin sells for sixteen times the price.

L’Épiphanie de Pauillac is the latest of our secret releases from iconic Bordeaux châteaux. It hails from Pauillac’s top tier – a Premier Grand Cru Classé estate. There are only three in the appellation: Lafite Rothschild, Mouton Rothschild and Latour. We guarantee this wine is from one of them. It isn’t their Grand Vin, of course, but it’s made from the same fruit by the same winemaker and housed in the same barrels. Yet it costs less than 1/16th of the Grand Vin’s price.

L’Épiphanie de Pauillac has blackcurrant, cherry and ripe plum infused with subtle spice, cedar and cigar box notes. These classic aromas combine with firm tannins for a complex wine with a long finish. By all means open a bottle now, but cellaring will pay dividends.

Château Haut-Pauillac 2017

Item Code: 4463317

Description

Bordeaux’s Haut-Médoc makes some of the world’s finest wines and three of the best – Premiers Grands Crus Classés – lie in Pauillac. This château isn’t Cru Classé but it’s a fine claret, now with 7 years age, and showing lovely cedary fruit maturity.

On Bordeaux’s Left Bank, in the heart of the Haut-Médoc, Pauillac is one of the most sought-after appellations for fine, muscular, long-aged claret. It boasts three Premiers Grands Crus Classés, namely Mouton-Rothschild, Lafite and Latour. Château Haut-Pauillac belongs to the Peyronnie family and boasts vineyards dotted between some of the finest estates – vines planted on gravel soils, enjoying a climate moderated by their proximity to the Gironde estuary. Largely Cabernet Sauvignon, softened by a little Merlot, the wine was aged for 18 months in oak barrels, 15-20% of which were new. To enjoy this fine claret, open an hour beforehand and decant. A superb red to serve with your finest red meat dishes or a choice of firm farmhouse cheeses.
