Château du Gazin is a family-owned château located on the famous Right Bank near Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. It was established in 1532, complete with a castle and dovecote, which showed its prestige. It has been owned for the last 80 years by the Robert family, who have once again built it into a prestigious estate.

Their lovely Château du Gazin Bordeaux comes from vineyards in Canon-Fronsac AOC, an appellation with clay-limestone soils similar to those of Saint-Émilion, renowned for its big, full-bodied reds. A lavish blend of velvety, plummy Merlot with red berry Cabernet Franc and inky Malbec, it has delicious aromas of black fruit, plums and cherries, and a woody tobacco note. The palate is smooth and textured, the luscious fruit and fine tannins all in beautiful balance. It’s a seamless, luxury wine with a decadently long finish … decant and serve with your finest roast meats.

Château Gigault was acquired in 1998 by Christophe Reboul, who had purchased Blaye's Château Les Maréchaux the year before. He immediately employed Stéphane Derenoncourt, who makes wine at some of Saint-Emilion’s greatest estates (La Mondotte, Canon La Gaffelière and Pavie Macquin), as consultant winemaker.

The château releases two wines – a traditionally made claret and this, their no-expense-spared Cuvée Viva, named after Reboul's late daughter. Critic Robert Parker described it as “consistently one of my picks as an overachieving wine”, while James Suckling considers it "excellent value". Hand-picked, low-yield Merlot aged in new oak, this is a rich, velvety, well-structured claret. Decant for an hour before serving. Ideal with lamb.

Its vineyards are nearly all planted to Merlot, with a small amount of Cabernet Franc, and tended with meticulous care. As you can see from critics' scores, it is an admired claret and one that ages very well too. Matured in French oak (50% new), it has structure and length, but above all an appealing depth of luscious fruit and spice – like Christmas in a glass! Christophe Reboul Salze is a big name in Bordeaux. Born in central France, he fell in love with the region's wines in his youth. Arriving in Bordeaux in 1980, he decided to make his passion a career. He gained a decade's experience trading in Grand Cru Classé wines and became director at one of the leading houses. Then started his own négociant business, which remains today a leader in the field.

However, he wanted to make wine too, so he purchased three estates in the Right Bank's Premières Côtes de Blaye and employed Stéphane Derenoncourt as consultant. The results have been exceptional. This superb claret uses a cuvée from each of his properties, Châteaux Les Grands Marechaux, Gigault and Belle Coline. A fine exclusive Bordeaux red.

For a time, wines were all about the winemaker. Personalities that liked to take the credit. Big egos and all that. But our winemakers know too well that it's the magic that happens in the vineyard that really counts. That's the way to ensure healthy, ripe grapes of delicious fruit purity. Grapes that express the terroir they come from. Our Sparkling Rosé uses all-Merlot from a prized new vineyard at Château La Clarière, in Bordeaux's Right Bank Castillon.

Currently in the first year of organic conversion, it should gain certification in 2024. Made by the classic Charmat method, the secondary fermentation, to give it the bubble, takes place in tank, not bottle. All sealed with a crown cap too. Easy! It'll bring a sparkle to any gathering.

Not many wines can boast 23 top Gold medals in six years, but that’s the triumphant haul for this claret, 2015 to 2020. It’s from a small estate in Saint-Germain du Puch, between Bordeaux and Saint-Emilion. The estate grows Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet on clay and limestone soils typical of the greater Saint-Emilion region. Owners Agnès and Alexandre Sueur and winemaker Gregory Dalla Longa make wines that reflect this special terroir and the unique character of each vintage.

And Bordeaux 2020, with its long, warm summer, was certainly high quality. "Bordeaux has another terrific vintage on its hands with 2020" wrote Jeb Dunnock, "outstanding quality level" put Suckling. Decant at least an hour prior to serving it with roast lamb or duck.

It comes from Château Bel-Orme, founded in 1750 by the Tronquoy-de-Lalande family and designed by Victor Louis (famous for the Grand Théatre of Bordeaux). At 13 years old, it's drinking superbly now. Don't miss your chance to secure it at this impressive price.
