Bernard Moreau has been in charge of his small family domaine in the Mâconnais since 1982 and is now assisted by his son, Alex, as winemaker. It lies very close to a village called Chardonnay, just like the grape! For this white, they use fruit from their 60-year-old vines, planted on calcareous soils and with excellent sun exposure. This is the perfect formula for wine with depth and concentration.
Plus, 2022 whites are blessed with richness, body and ripeness, a generous year. Bernard tends his vines with the utmost care, using sustainable, eco-friendly methods. Château du Gazin is a family-owned château located on the famous Right Bank near Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. It was established in 1532, complete with a castle and dovecote, which showed its prestige. It has been owned for the last 80 years by the Robert family, who have once again built it into a prestigious estate.
Their lovely Château du Gazin Bordeaux comes from vineyards in Canon-Fronsac AOC, an appellation with clay-limestone soils similar to those of Saint-Émilion, renowned for its big, full-bodied reds. A lavish blend of velvety, plummy Merlot with red berry Cabernet Franc and inky Malbec, it has delicious aromas of black fruit, plums and cherries, and a woody tobacco note. The palate is smooth and textured, the luscious fruit and fine tannins all in beautiful balance. It’s a seamless, luxury wine with a decadently long finish … decant and serve with your finest roast meats.

Finding a parcel of 2010 claret nine years after this 5-Star vintage was a coup for our Buyer Jean-Marc Sauboua. Critic Michael Schuster described the wines of 2010 on release as “massively elegant, fresher, firmer, more tannic”, Suckling praised them for being “very precise, focused and fresh to taste”, “dangerously good” said Jancis Robinson MW.
Médoc wines that year proved particularly good value too. The 40 hectare estate Château Carcanieux has very gravelly soils, hence its original name Carcanieux Les Graves. This encourages superb concentration and ripeness in the wines. Cabernet with Merlot, and aged in barrel, this silky claret has a fine balance of fruit and maturity, with spice from the oak. Decant and serve with steak au poivre.
