Low Stock Caravan Pinot Grigio 2023

Caravan Pinot Grigio 2023

Item Code: 4123723

Description

You've probably met other fresh, fruity wines from Australia's larger than life Johnny Q. He likes them to have immediate appeal, but also to go the distance. That's certainly true of Caravan – a fruit-filled, fresh and aromatic Pinot Grigio.

John Quarisa, aka Johnny Q, is a terrific winemaker, creating wines that, like him, can be lively and highly charged. In his Caravan series of wines, he likes to think of a grape that changes in style as it travels – makes an impact as it arrives and stays with you. Take his new release Pinot Grigio. It's made exclusively from free-run juice, giving it a pureness of flavour. Then it's fermented with specially selected yeast that brings out a grape's aroma. This accentuates the primary flavours of white blossom and lively peach, but also adds a hint of roundness to the wine. This fresh yet creamy white deserves a place in your fridge. Chill down and enjoy as a glass on its own, with spicy Thai dishes, all sorts of seafood or creamy noodles.

Low Stock Champagne Brigitte Delmotte Réserve (half bottle) NV

Champagne Brigitte Delmotte Réserve (half bottle) NV

Item Code: 4298422

Description

Brut Reserve artisan Champagne with fruit finesse and boasting two Gold medals, in handy half bottle.

Over 170 years of experience have gone into the making of this ripe tangerine and toasted brioche Champagne.

It's the work of 5th-generation winemaker Julian Fourrier, whose father, Philippe, created this special cuvée in honour of his wife, Brigitte. Her maiden name was Delmotte.

The grapes are a classic blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay taken from vineyards first planted by Philippe and Brigitte.

All the family's 18 hectares of vines lie within Champagne's little known Côte des Bar, described by Wine Folly as "the hottest Champagne region right now".

Made traditionally, this fine fizz was aged four years on its lees to enhance its rich toasty flavour.

Presented in a handy half bottle - perfect as a celebratory bottle for two!

Charles Cros Grande Réserve 2023

Item Code: 4351123

Description

Fabrezan is a top village in the Languedoc's Corbières region. There you'll find a small co-operative cellar, making fabulous rich reds by a method that makes them ultra velvety. This is their Grande Réserve Syrah brimful with lavish black fruit.

For over 40 years, Corbières’ Cave de Fabrezan has proudly made nearly all its reds by maceration carbonique, an exactly and costly method which produces deliciously silky, fruit-filled wines. Bunches of hand-harvested grapes are left to ferment whole and their juice decanted off the skins at the precise moment the best colour and aroma have been extracted. This special Réserve is made from an exceptional parcel of pure Syrah – a dark, velvety, sumptuous red named after Fabrezan’s most famous ‘son’, Charles Cros. Born in 1842, he was a poet (inspiration for the Surrealist movement) and an inventor (for colour photography, the paleophone and what became the gramophone). An exceptional Syrah, it’s brimming with black fruit and pepper.

Château de la Bégude Organic Rosé 2019

Item Code: 4057319

Description

Côtes de Provence is renowned for producing some of the world's most delicious, elegant and subtle rosés. And those from close to Mont Ste Victoire are the best of the best. From a 5th generation estate, this pink has superb savoury berry freshness.

Mont Sainte Victoire is renowned in Provence not only for inspiring the paintings of Paul Cézanne, but for producing some of the region's finest rosés.

It's a cru area, with vineyards planted on the mountain's lower slopes. Warm sunny days and cold nights are perfect for bringing out the aroma, elegance and freshness in its grapes.

Fifth generation Didier Lefebvre's Château La Bégude was founded in 1896. Such is his passion for his mature vineyards, he has converted them all to organic.

He grows classic Provence varieties – Cinsault, Grenache and Carignan, with a sprinkle of Vermentino, Ugni Blanc, Syrah and Mourvèdre.

Picked early morning and cool fermented, it captures all the savoury berry freshness you'd expect of this great wine.

Château de Lussac 2004

Item Code: 4298004

Description

Lussac is a satellite appellation of Saint-Emilion, renowned for its high-quality, good-value clarets. Château de Lussac is one of the best, this superb 2004 showing mature notes of mellow, toasty red fruit, with hints of cedar and spice box.

Château de Lussac is a historic property, dating back to Gallo-Roman times. Vineyards were first planted by Benedictine monks, while the château you see today was built in 1876. It has changed hands three times, most recently purchased by the Laviale family in the early 2000s. They have worked hard to elevate the estate to be one of the leading properties of this satellite Saint-Emilion appellation. Most of the 23 hectares of vines are Merlot, with a little Cabernet Franc, bordered to the north by woodland. This superb, 20-year-old claret was aged for 15 months in 30% new oak, the rest in one-year-old barrels to lend this wine its structure and longevity. Showing mellow fruit complexity, enjoy alongside simple meat dishes or a firm cheeses.

Château du Tertre Belair 2022

Item Code: 1744722

Description

Perhaps it’s the château’s location near St-Emilion that makes this claret so special. Or the know-how of the owner Bruno Dellac. Or the quality of this ripe vintage. What’s beyond doubt is the wine’s earthy richness and appealing ripe fruit.

Bruno Dellac’s wines are no stranger to Gold medals, winning them for most vintages since 2010. His family estate lies in Castillon, on the Right Bank, near Saint-Emilion and the Côtes de Francs. Vines planted 30 years ago are now producing grapes of superb intensity, especially thanks to the cool calcaire soils (the same as you’ll find in much of Saint-Emilion). Well-drained soil make vines struggle to find nutrients and the result is more mineral complexity and flavour in this Merlot-rich wine. Such is Bruno’s dedication to perfection that since 2010 he has converted his vineyards to organic viticulture, now with certification. Silky red fruit with structure and freshness – ideally open early and decant; serve with roast meats.

Low Stock Château Guillem de Montjustin 2019

Château Guillem de Montjustin 2019

Item Code: 3880619

Description

Be quick if you want this authentic, tiny production, richly flavoured Corbières. It's from right next door to Corbières Cru, Boutenac, and a family estate with century old vines of Grenache and Carignan. Sumptuous, rich and generously spiced.

Renowned French winemaker Gérard Bertrand makes his £40+ a bottle Corbières in craggy Boutenac. Just across a small country road is the village of Fabrezan and its equally amazing vineyards. It's where, in fact, Tony Laithwaite bought his first Corbières shipment back in 1971. Today young couple Amelie and Jean-Baptiste work tirelessly, in evenings and weekends (after their day jobs as consultant winemakers), tending their ancient vines and making their cru quality Corbières.

The vines were planted by J-B's great grandfather, a cellar built by his son, but more recently the grapes were all sold to the local coop. J-B and Amelie took over in 2007 and decided they could make something much better. This fabulous Grand Cru style is the result.
