From a fourth-generation-owned Pauillac cellar, B de Fonbadet may fall under the humble Bordeaux label, but it’s intensity and complexity leave no doubt about its high-end quality. This 2019 has even won the Decanter’s esteemed Platinum medal.
If you love big, powerful reds that make a statement, choose this gorgeous, dense, cherry charged Amarone. It’s made by specialist of this style Cantina Negrar – Italy’s 2016 ‘Winery of the Year’. Rich and packed with spiced red fruits!
Wine Enthusiast calls Amarone “one of the 15 icons in Italian wine”. They are certainly some of the most prized reds from Italy, made by the ancient tradition of sun drying grapes before fermentation. This gives them an amazing richness, a glorious combination of power and complexity that cellars well, too. No wonder they are prized the world over. This 2017 from the renowned Cantina Negrar is named after the 18th century poet Bartolomeo Lorenzi, whose epic poem celebrating rural life made Valpolicella wines famous. The grapes are from the ancient dry stone terraces of the cool Marano Valley, where they ripen slowly. They are then air dried for 120 days to intensify flavours. A superb bottle to enjoy now with hearty dishes or to cellar.

This is an authentic southern French red from a premium area of Corbières – Fabrezan. Using a traditional, whole-grape method of vinification, the wine has gorgeously supple fruit, with classic blackberry, smoky liquorice and wild herb notes.
Over 40 years ago, the small co-operative in Fabrezan, a top Corbières area, produced a special style of red. It was made by macération carbonique – handpicked bunches of grapes were left whole to ferment and the wine taken off the skins at the precise moment when there was optimum fruit, colour and aroma. It took precision and was costly. So the style was dropped. When new winemaker to the cellar Benoît Fillaquier arrived, he restored its production and this is the delicious result. It's named after the inventor and poet (he inspired the surrealist movement), Charles Cros, who was born in Fabrezan in 1842. Native grapes of Carignan, Syrah and Mourvèdre were carefully vinified to make this delicious, fleshy red, that's fruity and moreish.

From a family property, now run by the 9th generation, this 2016 offers exceptional value. A great vintage, lovely depth and ripeness to the low-yield fruit, with up to 18 months in barrel, this is a velvety, deep Bordeaux red.
