This is impressive!
If you’re a fan of the big, rich and luscious Shiraz that Australia does so well, then don’t miss this very special offer on a showstopping Shiraz from South Australia’s outstanding Barossa region and one of the founding-father wineries – a top estate that regularly wins glittering awards.
But here’s the thing. We can’t reveal the name of that very fine estate. Our Limited Release label is reserved for very special, one-off parcels of wines, where a winery wishes to remain anonymous. In return, it offers our buyer a wine at an almost unbelievable price – and we in turn can offer it to you.
Right from the start, over 60 years ago (yes, this winery has pedigree and history!), the estate realised the importance of old vines, Shiraz and the diversity of terroirs within the Valley. Connoisseurs know it delivers authenticity and massive character in every glass. So, if you love Barossa Shiraz (and like the idea of securing some at this impressive low price) then be quick to place your order!
Big, rich, concentrated …
The Barossa is world famous for its lavishly concentrated BIG reds – the Shiraz in particular. Its old vines are virtually national treasures, and the region is home to some of Australia’s most iconic estates and famous wines like Penfolds Grange and Henschke Hill of Grace. Voluptuous, intense, and inky black and rich, this mouthcoating Shiraz needs big glasses and big food (like a prime rib roast) to match.
Rated third among the top 10 wineries of Chile and Argentina by The Wine Report, Zuccardi are hugely impressive. Several years ago, their vineyard manager stumbled upon a very old vineyard in Mendoza. The owner, smoking a pipe under a tree, described his small, nuggety grapes as Cachibaché, meaning they were of little value to him (barely bringing in a profit) but potentially of great interest to someone else.
This was because old, low-yielding vines can produce very intense, complex, deeply coloured wines, albeit in tiny quantities. So Zuccardi winemaker Rubén Ruffo got to work. His Cachibaché 2021 is a blend of Shiraz and Malbec, all from this ancient vineyard. Dark fruit and spice, it's superb with lamb shanks and hearty pasta dishes.

This irresistible black beauty is made from fabulously intense Shiraz and Grenache grapes grown on the craggy hillsides of France’s deep south – the Languedoc-Roussillon. Look up from the vines and you will see ruins of castles perching precariously on rocky peaks. This inhospitable landscape and these ancient strongholds were home to medieval Cathars who lived in awe of the evil god Rex Mundi (‘King of the World’).
He corrupted the faithful with promises of earthly pleasures and the forbidden delights of mortal flesh. But behind the wine is a very kind soul - Hervé Sabardeil, our ‘King of the Black Reds’. Don’t even try to resist the temptation of this red, just sip and enjoy its marriage of liquorice-scented Shiraz and luscious Grenache.
