Our Buyers have long been good friends with Javier Murúa - he makes our best-selling Rioja, Barón de Barbón. We were delighted when, a few years back, he decided to explore further afield and has set up a winery in Galicia's prized Riás Baixas region. It lies in the beautiful village of Meis, close to an ancient monastery. They work closely with 250 growers, tending 80 hectares of vines, all in the Salnés region, to obtain the highest-quality fruit.
Albariño is a top-performing variety of Spain. It produces the breezy, citrus freshness that Sauvignon drinkers adore, yet has a bit more weight, length and structure to satisfy. This wine is thoroughly delicious right now. Terrific on its own or enjoy with fish or light noodle dishes.

Like the much adored so-called ‘standard’ Corsiero, this punchy rich red is full of the dark spicy cherry fruit of Nero di Troia. It’s a terrific southern Italian grape, deeply coloured and full of dense red fruit, and with excellent structure. However, in our ‘riserva’ edition – our thoroughbred charger, Purosangue – the grapes are from particularly old vines to lend even more intensity of flavour. Leading winemaker Mario Ercolino made a rigorous selection of the grapes, then oak aged the wine in barrel to create this sleek, aristocratic red that will warm you with its velvety texture, rich spice and dense black fruit. Partner with equally substantial dishes – we recommend a well seasoned pork and butter bean casserole or meaty pasta.

The magnificent seven behind this white are led by Jean Paul Coste, winemaker and grandson of the village cellar’s founder. Light on numbers and overshadowed by near neighbour Châteauneuf du Pape, Jean Paul could have sold out to the big boys. But that would mean the end of the village wine. Instead, our heroes decided to stand and fight – making the cellar a really personal project. They produce Rhône wines with just as much character too.
Their Gold-medal red was a hit with customers when it launched. Now we’re excited to share their Blanc. It’s another gem. Citrus, apricot, peach and wild flower notes mingle with a honeyed lovely intensity and mineral depth – rich, but still fresh and dry. Serve with grilled fish for a perfect match.
