Low Stock McPherson Family Series The Angus Cabernet Merlot Petit Verdot 2020

McPherson Family Series The Angus Cabernet Merlot Petit Verdot 2020

Item Code: 1893120

Description

DW Wine Club Member Price: $68

The Angus is a glorious ripe Aussie blend of the classic Bordeaux trio Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot. It comes from the McPherson family, also behind The Full Fifteen, and provides a truly satisfying mouthful of dark fruit and spicy flavour.

There's no doubt about it, Big Mac McPherson makes a mean, BIG red - indeed, he's been making some of our popular weighty Australians for years. He's passed this skill on to his son Angus, as well as a bug for travelling. Angus, like his dad did before him, has been gaining experience around the world, but has recently returned to the cellar, keen to show his worth.

Believing the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, Angus has blended this gobstopper red from Bordeaux's Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot. It has lovely, dark fruity appeal, with plenty of spice from the Petit Verdot and juicy plummy Merlot filling it out. A touch of firmness makes it great with food. Decant The Angus and serve with slow cooked lamb or rare roast beef.

Low Stock Lapostolle Grande Reserve 2019

Lapostolle Grande Reserve 2019

Item Code: 4021219

Description

The top wine of this 'Grand Cru' estate in Chile has scored 100 perfect points three times. This is their impressive, barrel-matured red, made by the same team, but for earlier drinking. Dark black fruits, mocha and spice notes with fabulous length.

Lapostolle is no stranger to accolades – every year their small range of wines gains many high scores from critics. The perfect 100 has only ever been achieved by a very small number of wineries across the world, yet Lapostolle has gained it three times. This pioneering estate was founded in 1994 by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet. Originally from Bordeaux, they fell in love with Chile’s Colchagua Valley. They built an impressive six-level winery, elliptically shaped, that today is still pure state of the art. The estate boasts 370 hectares of biodynamic vines across Colchagua, Casablanca and Cachapoal. Apalta, within Colchagua, produces some of the country's finest wines. Open the wine early and decant.

Low Stock RedHeads Wilson Gunn Bellum Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2021

RedHeads Wilson Gunn Bellum Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2021

Item Code: 2802221

Description

Top vintage of this cracking Cabernet Shiraz. Every year the RedHeads winemaker, Alex Trescowthick, chooses the best grapes. In 2021 these were two A-grade parcels from premium Barossa and Coonawarra. Immense kirsch, eucalyptus and lavish oak spice.

Henry Laithwaite is the originator of this wine, but he now has his hands full with his own English Sparkling wine estate in Marlow. So RedHeads winemaker, Alex Trescowthick, stepped up to the plate. He was handed a gift too. The Shiraz grapes were top notch for starters – from some of the winery's finest growers – usually destined for their Icon wines. The Cabernet is from Coonawarra, Australia's best region for this variety. It was a parcel destined for a larger cellar's flagship wine. The first year it was wrongly delivered to RedHeads! The grower rang and apologised for the fortuitous accident. It made a cracking wine and now Alex gets it every year! The superb conditions of 2021 only added to the wine's power, dense fruit and weight.

Low Stock Château Pédesclaux 2020

Château Pédesclaux 2020

Item Code: 1075120

Description

From an iconic cellar, dedicated now to all things organic, this is a magnificent 95-point Pauillac. With great depth of crushed berry fruit and graphite elegance, richly textured tannins and brooding intensity, it’s a fine claret, built to last.

Founded 200 years ago, Château Pédesclaux is a magnificent estate, both in terms of wine and architecture. It combines the beauty of the 19th century with the modernity and technological advances of the 21st.

The additional work was undertaken by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, whose aim was to place “production at the heart of the estate within a high-performance building that is entirely fit for purpose and makes a harmonious whole with both the château and its surroundings”. It's quite something to behold.

Since the Lorenzetti family took ownership they've converted to organic. Their top wine is a rich, Cabernet-based claret, supported by Merlot, and finely expresses its gravel terroir. Still a young wine – best to cellar or open early.
