Don't miss this exceptional 96-point Brunello. From Marco Bacco's Renieri estate, “an excellent producer of Brunello”, said Wine Advocate. It may not have quite equalled the 100 points of 2015, but James Suckling was still '96-point' impressed.

Renieri is owned by its grand neighbour, Marco Bacci's historic, much lauded Castello di Bossi. The same care goes into the wines of both estates. Renieri boasts 128 hectares of land, within which lie 30 hectares of vines, in the southern stretch of Montalcino. The prized vineyards for the Brunello all lie at 350 to 420 metres altitude, some of the highest in the appellation and were replanted in 1998 to meet the high specifications of the team. Meticulous work in the vineyards and ageing in a mix of small barriques and traditional larger botti barrels result in a wine of amazing power and bold, dense fruit, with the freshness and structure to enable it to age a couple of decades at least. Delicious now; will cellar magnificently.

Albariño used to be a little-known grape of NW Spain. Recently it has shot to stardom, adored for its Sauvignon-like freshness with extra richness. Little was grown outside Galicia - until recently that is. Now, look, even South Africa has taken it to their hearts. This is a fresh, summery white from the great Spier Estate in premium Stellenbosch, winner of 'South African Wine Producer of the Year' in 2011 and 2018, also Editor's Choice 'Winery of the Year 2022' awarded by Platter. They're one of the Cape's oldest wineries, proud of the many community projects they run, under the banner 'Growing for Good', for which they've won a top Ethical award this year. Albariño is a new venture for them and this white is a terrific introduction.

The Lauren-Cabaret cellar has been making great wine in the Minervois region for almost 100 years. Villa Claudius is pure, handpicked Carignan, whole-grape fermented (like Beaujolais) to highlight its bright silky fruit, wild herbs and spice notes.

It’s rare to discover a red wine from the Minervois region made purely from Carignan. Even rarer, when it’s all from old-vine Carignan, but for this prize-winning cellar it’s something of a speciality, clear from the Gold medal that it’s already won. Winemaker Sylvain Delabre knows exactly how to get the very best from his precious handpicked grapes, bringing out all the supple blackberry and raspberry fruit, along with subtle notes of wild herbs and spice. Whole grape fermentation ensures the wine is deliciously silky and supple, with minimal tannins and no hard edges. A red wine with character and depth, and freshness too. We first met Dino when he began restoring his grandfather's earthquake-struck vineyard, high in the Sicilian hills. You loved the wine it made - Tenuta Fenice. Not one to rest on his laurels, he's started another ambitious new project called w/o - wine made without compromise. He chose native Frappato as his champion, all grown organically thanks to Sicily's warm, dry climate and Dino's diligence. It's bottled in 100% recycled glass too, known as 'wild' glass, a UK first. You may notice a little variation in colour, perhaps a few tiny bubbles. All part of the charm, as is the delicious red berry and cherry fruit that greets you on the aroma and continues through on the bright, juicy palate. Try chilled solo, or with pizza or pesto pasta.

All part of the charm, as is the wine's herbal-scented peach fruit. Chill and sip with seafood and lighter dishes.
