The Lauren-Cabaret cellar has been making great wine in the Minervois region for almost 100 years. Villa Claudius is pure, handpicked Carignan, whole-grape fermented (like Beaujolais) to highlight its bright silky fruit, wild herbs and spice notes.

It’s rare to discover a red wine from the Minervois region made purely from Carignan. Even rarer, when it’s all from old-vine Carignan, but for this prize-winning cellar it’s something of a speciality, clear from the Gold medal that it’s already won. Winemaker Sylvain Delabre knows exactly how to get the very best from his precious handpicked grapes, bringing out all the supple blackberry and raspberry fruit, along with subtle notes of wild herbs and spice. Whole grape fermentation ensures the wine is deliciously silky and supple, with minimal tannins and no hard edges. A red wine with character and depth, and freshness too. Delectable and intriguing in many ways, this Rioja is rare. It's made from pure Graciano, aged gently for a year in French oak barrels. This is a sublime red from a 5-star family estate, with red berry, plum, tea and creamy spice notes.

Carlos and Pilar Martínez Bujanda are 4th-generation winemakers who blaze a trail. Their great grandfather founded a cellar in 1889, which the siblings reimagined in 1984 with a state-of-the-art cellar, one of Spain's finest. That sealed their worldwide reputation for quality. Since then, Carlos and Pilar have founded the very beautiful Finca Valpiedra estate in the Alavesa and their most recent project, Viña Bujanda, in Oyón, where their great grandfather started the family's journey. This is fabulous red, made purely from Graciano, a variety that once was Rioja's chief grape, yet today makes up just 1%, but increasing. No surprise when you taste the sublime quality of this wine. Aged a year in French oak casks, it has matured beautifully.

We first met Dino when he began restoring his grandfather's earthquake-struck vineyard, high in the Sicilian hills. You loved the wine it made - Tenuta Fenice. Not one to rest on his laurels, he's started another ambitious new project called w/o - wine made without compromise. He chose native Frappato as his champion, all grown organically thanks to Sicily's warm, dry climate and Dino's diligence. It's bottled in 100% recycled glass too, known as 'wild' glass, a UK first. You may notice a little variation in colour, perhaps a few tiny bubbles. All part of the charm, as is the delicious red berry and cherry fruit that greets you on the aroma and continues through on the bright, juicy palate. Try chilled solo, or with pizza or pesto pasta.

It's bottled in 100% recycled glass too, known as 'wild' glass, a UK first. You may notice a little variation in colour, perhaps a few tiny bubbles. All part of the charm, as is the wine's herbal-scented peach fruit. Chill and sip with seafood and lighter dishes.
