Rodolfo Sadler, affectionately known as Opi, is one of Argentina’s most exciting talents. He’s an easy going, affable man, with a hint of mischief in his eyes – yet he’s incredibly humble. When probed about the secret of crafting such exceptional wines (two of which are always in our Top 20!), he simply shrugged and said, “this is how my family has always made wine.” Typical Opi – seriously modest. And why ‘Opi’? The nickname comes from his childhood, when his little sister would follow him through the family vineyards, calling out ‘Opi, Opi’, as she couldn’t quite pronounce his name. Now, four decades on and an internationally renowned winemaker, the name’s firmly stuck. Enjoy this delicious red with a grilled steak or hearty casserole.

This is a fresh, summery white from the great Spier Estate in premium Stellenbosch, winner of 'South African Wine Producer of the Year' in 2011 and 2018, also Editor's Choice 'Winery of the Year 2022' awarded by Platter. They're one of the Cape's oldest wineries, proud of the many community projects they run, under the banner 'Growing for Good', for which they've won a top Ethical award this year. Albariño is a new venture for them and this white is a terrific introduction.

The Lauren-Cabaret cellar has been making great wine in the Minervois region for almost 100 years. Villa Claudius is pure, handpicked Carignan, whole-grape fermented (like Beaujolais) to highlight its bright silky fruit, wild herbs and spice notes.

We first met Dino when he began restoring his grandfather's earthquake-struck vineyard, high in the Sicilian hills. You loved the wine it made - Tenuta Fenice. Not one to rest on his laurels, he's started another ambitious new project called w/o - wine made without compromise. He chose native Frappato as his champion, all grown organically thanks to Sicily's warm, dry climate and Dino's diligence. It's bottled in 100% recycled glass too, known as 'wild' glass, a UK first. You may notice a little variation in colour, perhaps a few tiny bubbles. All part of the charm, as is the delicious red berry and cherry fruit that greets you on the aroma and continues through on the bright, juicy palate. Try chilled solo, or with pizza or pesto pasta.
