The selection is a veritable who’s who of regional French Grenache all showing polish and poise. We kick off with the lovely La Porte des Princes 2021, a pure Southern Rhône Grenache with irresistible raspberry fruit, hints of spice and a peppery edge. Also from the Rhône is Gold medal-winning Willem the Silent 2023 … quiet in name, but huge in flavour and packed with herby black fruit and spice character. More Rhône Gold can be found in the Cuvée Prestigieux Côtes Du Rhône 2022 – a supple and succulent masterpiece that blends Grenache and Syrah – it’s deliciously moreish.
Head to the sun-blessed south for the mighty Le XV Du Président 2022 (the King of the Big Reds!) from Roussillon, home to dense fruit and spice-powered Grenache grapes and bestselling Cabalié Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2023, a lush, old vine red with real character – a portion of Carignan adds an inky complexity. Finally indulge in the lovely Terrasses des Safres 2021. This warm, ripe, bright-fruit red is made by the renowned Perrin family, owners of legendary Châteauneuf estate Château de Beaucastel. It’s from nearby Ventoux – home to “fantastic value, exciting wines – with clearly distinctive styles” (Decanter).
Drink like the celebrities do with the handcrafted Roche Bellemont Provence Rosé 2020 using the pick of the vintage fruit from the oldest vines, planted on the finest soils. It has subtle berry fruit, creamy savoury hints, a lift of lavender and wild herbs with underlying brisk minerality. No wonder it’s won Gold! Worth $239, it’s yours FREE with the Celebrate Grenache Day Selection.
A luscious, ripe southern Rhône red from this fourth-generation estate, with a Gold medal to boot. Originally from Burgundy, the family ventured south in 1911 and fell in love with the warmth and reliability of the Rhône. A smooth, rich, velvety red.
This well priced southern Rhône red is packed with herby black fruit and spice character. If it hailed from any of its neighbouring regions, it would cost a pretty penny. But from the often overlooked Vaucluse, it delivers great flavour and value.
The stellar rise of Provence rosé is phenomenal. We love to sip the pale hued wines all year round, whenever the moment takes us.
Southern Rhône red from an award-winning Châteauneuf winemaker and a high-quality vintage. The cellar for this wine is in prestigious Châteauneuf, and the vineyards are just next door. Ripe and luscious Grenache, it’s all juicy fruit and spice.
Roussillon is home to dense fruit and spice-powered Grenache grapes, just what’s required for the legendary XV. This wine has inspired a generation of Big Reds and remains incomparably rich, weighty and satisfying.
