Lovers of fine French Chardonnay, get ready for a very exciting French treat that you are sure to adore. Yes, it’s a luxury Burgundy!
Domaine Dampt Chevalier d'Eon Bourgogne Tonnerre 2019 comes from a very famous Chablis-making family, from vineyards that lie just outside of the Chablis appellation. So if you’re familiar with fine Chablis, you will have a good idea of what this very lovely Burgundy will be like. You can look forward to beautiful summer hay, wet stone, grapefruit, white flower and citrus aromas on a long, pure, minerally palate.
The really good news? You get all the Chablis style and flavour and winemaking expertise – but without the huge price tag.Today you can secure a dozen of this elegant and sophisticated white at just $149 a bottle!
(It is a Burgundy, so the price is still on the higher side. But it’s worth it, we promise!).
Founded by Bernard Dampt in 1980, Domaine Dampt is now run by his sons Eric, Emmanuel and Hervé. They have won numerous top medals and also ‘Chablis Young Winemaker of the Year’. Their wines always have a lovely purity of fruit and superb intensity, and their Tonnerre white is particularly accessible early on. Plus, very good value!
There’s a story to the label … It’s named after a particularly colourful local character, Charles Geneviève Louis d’Eon de Beaumont, aka the Chevalier d’Eon. In the 18th century, he became famous for his cross-dressing disguises, as he conducted secret negotiations with the Russian Empress Elizabeth and as a spy for King Louis XV!
No doubt he was very partial to an elegant Burgundy. He would have served this one with grilled fish with a white wine and butter sauce, or an elegant chicken dish. Or perhaps oysters or lobster or … you get the picture! This is a very fine white that needs fine food to match it!
This is a wonderful chance to try some superb French wines at an exceptional price for the quality. We have only tiny amounts of each though, so don’t miss out.
