Sauvignon Blanc lovers, this set is for you! Today, fill the fridge with mouthwatering Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand’s wildly popular Marlborough region and then see how they compare against lipsmacking Sauvignons from Europe including France, Austria and Portugal.
New Zealand’s marvellous Marlborough region is home to some of the most distinctive, herbaceous, passionfruit-rich Sauvignon Blancs you’ll ever experience. Of course Sauvignon Blanc was grown in Europe first, and theirs are pretty special too. So now it’s time to taste and compare!
In the European corner is the lemony, grassy, Gold-medal Abbesse 2020 from France, the minerally Danaris 2020 from a top Austrian estate, and the lovely Stones & Bones 2020 from Portugal that’s "more elegant than Marlborough, more fruity than a Sancerre” (threedrinkers.com). Marlborough favourites include the thrilling Company Bay 2020 dazzling with bright tropical fruit, the luscious Mussel Pot Reserve 2020 from a legendary grower (you may remember Mussel Pot 2019 has been named New Zealand Wine of the Year!) and our bestselling Sunday Bay Reserve 2020, overflowing with passionfruit and zesty cut grass flavours.
Which is better? Truly? Neither! Both are dazzlingly fresh, thirst-quenching, mouthwatering whites that will absolutely delight. Now it’s just a matter of choosing which one you want to pour in your glass first. A riotously aromatic and herbaceous Marlborough number, or a more elegant and citrussy European star. Either way, you win – especially if fresh seafood is on the menu!
The best way to spend your time on a hot summer day is to have a sip of mouthwatering stars at home, so don’t miss out.
Your favourite, super grassy, lemony fresh white, providing just what you want from a glass of Sauvignon. At the Bougrier family’s Touraine cellar, Franck Châtelain searches out the best grapes and employs them in this citrusy, aromatic white.
First this great Austrian cellar, Winzer Krems, brought you its dazzling, citrus spiced Grüner Veltliner. Now try its superbly refreshing Sauvignon Blanc with gooseberry and nettle aromas and a lasting finish of crisp green apple and bell pepper.
We know how much customers love our Sunday Bay by the sheer number of 5-Star reviews online. Now let us introduce the 6-star special Reserve edition! This is a premium version of this customer favourite. Despite world problems, 2020 was a magnificent vintage, one of the best in recent years. In terms of flavour in your glass, it means even more of Marlborough's classic ‘leap from the glass’ gooseberry, cut grass aromas and generous tropical fruit notes.
Stones & Bones is an exciting new-release - a grassy fresh, tropical-infused Sauvignon Blanc to please this grape’s many fans. It’s from the award-winning Casa Santos Lima estate and cool fermented to bring out the herbaceous, citrusy notes.
Mussel Pot is one of our most popular New Zealand Sauvignons. Perhaps that's no surprise, as all the grapes come from a grower renowned for quality. This is the Reserve edition, using the pick of the crop. Even more delicious tropical fruit and zip.
Positioned in the northeastern corner of South Island, Marlborough is one of New Zealand’s most prestigious wine regions. It's known the world over for its intensely aromatic, herbaceous Sauvignon Blancs of arresting quality. Company Bay is from a top cellar there, which had a parcel of surplus fruit in 2020. They were delighted to make us this special tropical and gooseberry crisp cuvée. Their only proviso? That we don’t blow the whistle on them and upset their usual customers.
