Every year, the RedHeads winemakers sweet-talk grower Joe Roccat to ensure they get a full load of his remarkable Durif grapes, grown at One Tree Hill. To this they add premium Cabernet from fifth generation grower Adrian ‘Hoffy’ Hoffman in the Barossa’s Ebenezer. With some of his vines over 130 years old, Hoffy is a bit of a legend. Add a touch of Touriga Nacional to the blend and you get a concentrated, complex, decadent, indulgent and seriously BIG red. A beast of a wine! The show judges love it – they’ve given it TWO Gold medals, and a solid 93pt score. Tony Love, writer for the Halliday Wine Companion, calls it a “shirtfront wine, heavyweight in nature.”
We love it too. We will admit that some delicate souls don’t exactly love the label and it’s probably not one you’d serve at a romantic dinner for two (unless you have a shared love of horror movies perhaps) but that aside, it’s a must-try wine that you simply don’t want to miss.
