If you love Italy's gorgeous Pinot Grigio, but want to try something new, then don't miss this! Today, dive into two exciting whites from stylish Italy – a minerally Gladietti Falanghina 2020 and citrus-crisp Vesuvium Greco di Tufo 2020, both with 90+ points!
Falanghina is one of Italy's oldest varieties, planted there in Roman times. It's deliciously crisp and bright, with a wonderful mineral tang. This excellent version comes from Campania's Benevento region. It's made by top consultant winemaker Riccardo Cotarella, who works with the growers at La Guardianse, a co-operative that has been awarded top marks in wine bible Gambero Rosso many times. Rated 91 points by Gilbert & Gaillard, look forward to an aromatic white with beautiful floral and orange blossom notes and a dazzling mineral freshness.
Also from Campania, this crisp, pear and lemon-scented wine comes from the Irpinian hills near Naples. The region's climate is ideal for cultivating vines. At 500m altitude and with cooling sea breezes, the grapes here can be among the last harvested in Italy. Volcanic soils mean yields are kept low, too. Look forward to a joyously zesty wine with honeyed pear and lemon fruit – a wine brimming with character and boasting an impressive 93 points from Luca Maroni. The Greco di Tufo grape is Greek in origin, but today it's decidedly Italian. In fact, it's one of Italy's finest. A real star!
