From the 4th-generation De Martino family, this is a rich, ripe red using Chile's speciality grape, Carmenère. It shows what elegance and richness can be achieved in Chile's best sites. The family are Italian, but left their homeland for South America in 1934. They made the Cachapoal Valley their new home and now have the largest holdings of organic vineyards in Chile.
Their wines always show a great sense of "place, purity and balance". Twice named 'Chilean Winery of the Year', they specialise in using sustainable practices in the vineyard and carefully match each grape to its optimum region. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in cool Limari, while Carmenère excels in the warmer Maipo Valley. Silky solo, it's tasty too with chicken or veggie bake.

He travelled the world making wine before an assignment to Spain in 2003. He fell in love with the ancient Garnacha bush vines of Calatayud and now can't drag himself away. This is his 'King of Garnacha' red, from his old, gnarled vineyards (50-120 years old) at a lofty 1000m above sea level. There, the blazing daytime sunshine ripens the grapes, while cold nights draw out the aromas and ensures excellent structure to this long-lived wine. Most other growers have abandoned their vineyards here – it's too hard to make a living. But Norrel teases out the very best from his grapes to make this exceptional, oak-aged red. This off-dry, zesty Riesling comes from the oldest family winery on New Zealand’s South Island – Seifried estate in sunny Nelson, established well before Cloudy Bay. The Aussies make ultra-appetising, lime-fresh Rieslings.
