Vieux Château des Moines 2012 is a gem of a wine from a little known estate in the SW of the region. 65-year-old vines and sandy soils all add to the credentials. For lovers of a fine, mature claret, this 2012 is worth snapping up. It offers lovely mellow character, but there's no big rush to drink it. It's from a small property in the southwest of Saint-Émilion, proud of its 19 hectares of vineyards. A careful hand in the vineyard and the cellar, along with 14+ months' ageing in new oak, ensure pretty fruit with enough power and structure to age.
