Chile’s Colchagua Valley is “Chile’s premier red-wine region” (Decanter magazine), and a “super cool region” (Jancis Robinson) that boasts some of Chile’s finest and most expensive wine names. Montes, Sena and Lapostelle are found here, and you can add Viña Casa Silva to the list as well. Casa Silva is one of Chile’s foremost estates, it has won ‘Winery of the Year’ (The Wines of Chile) FOUR times and earned the distinction of ‘Most Awarded Winery of the 21st Century’ (Vitis). To top things off, recently René Vásquez was announced Winemaker of the Year in Tim Atkin’s 2020 Chile Report.
This is a really lovely Pinot Noir, similar to the elegant, fine-boned and complex examples you would find in France’s Burgundy and New Zealand’s Central Otago regions. Its elegance is thanks to the high-altitude Colchagua Valley vineyards, where grapes benefit from cooling, Pacific Ocean breezes and that brilliantly intense Chilean sunshine. A brief slumber in oak barrels has given the wine a lovely cedar note which beautifully frames the silky cherry and strawberry characters, and the finish is luxuriously long and elegant, with just a hint of spice. It’s the perfect partner to BBQ or roast duck – yum!
Want a case? Of course you do! If you love fine Pinot Noir, this superb version – at this amazing price – is a MUST-HAVE. Only limited stocks were imported from Chile though, so if you want a case you must be quick.
