Description

Here is your unique chance to add a very special decade-long cellared treasure to your wine collection. Our buyer for Italy describes this as a "rare opportunity to enjoy a mature Riserva from Puglia, still fresh after 10 years' age".

Your FREE bottle is the velvety Erta e China Rosso 2019, worth $199! Aged for 14 months in French oak casks, it's a dense Italian red blending Tuscany's famous Sangiovese with rich Cabernet in a Super Tuscan style. Paolo Masi is the grand master of the Chianti grape, making wines with "abundant personality" (Gambero Rosso Wine Guide). His Erta e China has even been featured in Wine Spectator's '100 Best Wines of the World'!

Your insights into the Palumbo Riserva 2012

The wine is named after its winemaker Leonardo Palumbo. It's a rule of his family that you only put your name on the label of a wine you are really delighted with. And here you can see it shining proudly in a large gold print.

The Wine

Nero di Troia is the star of the show, a special clone from the best plots. The grape's thick skin imparts plenty of intense colour, character and the potential to age. It was matured for a full 18 months in oak barrels for complexity and the rest of the time in bottle. With aromas of ripe berries, violets and star anise, the wine is intensely flavoured with concentrated spicy black fruits and rounded tannins. Decant early and serve alongside grilled meats.

The Region

Castel del Monte DOCG 'castle on the hill' is a sub-appellation located in the broader Puglia wine region of south-eastern Italy. Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) is the highest level of wine classification in all of Italy. The DOCG sticker on the Palumbo Riserva 2012 reflects not only the prestige and quality of the region – it is a guarantee of the wine itself.
