The hottest name coming from Romania is Cramele Recas. Founded in 1998, this pioneering cellar leads the field in premium wines, with an up-to-the-minute winery and vineyards that were first planted in 1447. Englishman Philip Cox and his Romanian wife started the estate, bringing in winemaking expertise from Oz, Hartley Smithers, and Spain, Nora Iriate. Their bottles have even caught the attention of The Telegraph and The Drinks Business who have written rave reviews about their vibrant, characterful wines.
This silky smooth Merlot is part of their new Babele range, named after the Romanian tradition of celebrating the arrival of spring. Bright and succulent, it has a wealth of drink-me-now flavours. Great solo or with grilled meats.
The award-winning Casa Silva estate was founded by Emilio Bouchon who arrived in Chile from Bordeaux in 1892. Today, it's run by Mario Pablo Silva, who has made the property one of the leading estates in Chile. The family has pioneered new regions there and been at the forefront of research into viticulture. You can taste that expertise and enthusiasm in this red. A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Carmenère, this 2019 Casa Silva is extremely smooth and juicy with fresh red berry and black cherry fruits.
There aren't too many spots on the planet where Pinot Noir really excels. Burgundy and New Zealand's South Island spring to mind. But there is another, less known region blessed with perfect conditions for world class Pinot Noir: Colchagua Valley, Chile. The Silva family realised this many decades ago and now set the benchmark for outstanding Pinot Noir. They have four times won 'Winery of the Year', while Vitis named them 'Most awarded of the century'.
Velvet smooth, it gives many a pricier Pinot a run for its money. Full of that classic red berry and spice complexity that fans of this grape adore, the wine spent a few months in French oak, which adds a further toasty richness to the ripe summer fruit. Excellent with creamy chicken dishes.
A wine from Ludovic Roussillon, the winemaker behind the generous ripe fruit and velvety tannins of Château Le Coin. In Moulin du Prieur, you’ll find the same appealing style. This vintage is packed with creamy blackberry, plum and spice notes.

This juicy, fruit filled 2020 is the true taste of quality Beaujolais. Made from Gamay grapes grown on 50 year old vines on the superior Villages hillsides, the wine has lovely depth and intensity.
